07/04/2017 (Agence Europe) – Ahead of the G7 (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom and United States) summit, to be held under the Italian presidency in Taormina, Sicily, on 26-27 May, the energy ministers of those seven major industrialised nations and European Energy and Climate Change Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete will meet in Rome on 9 and 10 April. This meeting will focus on energy security – and will discuss cybersecurity, natural gas, Ukraine and new energy drivers, such as renewable energy, sustainable alternative fuels, energy efficiency and innovation in clean technologies. On the sidelines of the G7 energy ministers’ meeting, Cañete will hold meetings with US Energy Secretary Rick Perry and Canadian Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr. The EU has been a member of the G7 since 1977 and is fully committed to developing an Energy Union in line with the 2015 Paris Agreement to combat climate change, the Commission says in a press release.
