07/04/2017 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament has set up a "steering committee" for the work on Brexit, featuring the authors of Parliament's resolution adopted on Wednesday 5 April (see EUROPE 11761): Gabi Zimmer (GUE/NGL), Gianni Pittella (S&D), Manfred Weber (EPP), Philippe Lamberts (Greens/EFA) and Guy Verhofstadt (ALDE), plus Danuta Hübner (EPP), a Parliament source explained. Verhofstadt, the coordinator of the Brexit negotiations, will continue to report to the conference of presidents of the Parliament groups, which will be Parliament's senior authority in the process. The Belgian MEP will be accompanied in his work by Elmar Brok (EPP) and Roberto Gualtieri (S&D), who will probably have the 'title' of sherpas, the source added. They previously served as sherpas in late 2015 and early 2016, during negotiations with London for an agreement to allow the UK to stay in the EU. (SP)
