22/02/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 22 February, the European Commission launched a public consultation with a view to updating the 2006 Recommendation on Key Competences for Lifelong Learning (2006/962/EC). The review was announced in the Commission's New Skills Agenda for Europe and seeks to develop a shared understanding of key competences needed and to further foster their introduction in education and training curricula. The public consultation will run until 19 May 2017 and is addressed to education officials, political decision-makers, sector professionals and citizens and according to Commissioner Tibor Navracsics, aims to provide them with, “the chance to define what key competences are necessary for personal fulfilment and development, active citizenship, social inclusion and employment”.
