21/02/2017 (Agence Europe) – The European Union has condemned the car bomb attack in Somalia's capital Mogadishu on Sunday 19 February, which claimed 20 lives. The attack comes just as Somalia has elected a new president. "The attack on civilians in Mogadishu today is yet another act of terror targeting the Somali people by those wanting to undermine progress towards a stable and secure Somalia", the spokesperson for the European External Action Service said in a press release published the same day, adding: "We stand with President Farmajo and the new leadership to bring security and further build strong institutions". Offering condolences to those who lost their lives, families and friends, the EU says that it "will continue its relentless support to the people of Somalia in their efforts to recover from years of conflict and rebuild their country".
