The European Commission is to mobilise €82 million in emergency humanitarian aid to fight the famine in South Sudan and help the neighbouring countries, like Uganda, address the massive flow of refugees.
The Commission announced this aid on Tuesday 21 February, as a state of famine was declared in South Sudan for the first time since its independence in 2011. Around 100,000 people are threatened by the famine and 4.9 million require emergency aid.
