European Parliament fears explosion of payment claims in 2018

In Brussels on Thursday 9 February, MEPs said that they anticipated tough negotiations this year on the 2018 budget of the EU, due to the increase in payment claims expected at the end of the multi-annual financial framework (MFF) of the EU.

Jean Arthuis (ALDE, France), the chair of the budgets committee in Parliament, said that next year's budget would be marked by an acceleration in the payment of bills. He expects an “explosion of payment claims and a formidable budget”.
