09/02/2017 (Agence Europe) – UK members of parliament voted by a significant majority on Wednesday 8 February to pass the Bill put before them by the Conservative government, giving Prime Minister Theresa May the power to trigger the process that will end with the United Kingdom’s leaving the European Union. The House of Commons voted by 494 to 122 to approve the draft legislation. The draft legislation, put to parliament only after the government was forced to do so by the Supreme Court in January, now moves to the House of Lords, which is expected to approve it. May has announced that she will trigger Article 50 of the Treaty of the EU before the end of March. There have been suggestions in the British press that the she may do so at the European summit on 9 March. (SP)
