On the agenda: – Prospects for the first half of 2017. - Syria (possibility for the EU to influence political transition in the country and guarantee access to humanitarian aid). – Middle East: peace prospects following the adoption of the UN resolution condemning Israeli colonisation and the Paris Conference).

Strasbourg. European Commission. Weekly meeting of the College of Commissioners. Presentation to the College of the report of the high-level group on own resources of the EU by group President Mario Monti.

Plenary session. *Elections: - election of the 14 vice-presidents and five quaestors of Parliament under the presidency of the new President; - Vote on the numerical composition of the parliamentary committees; - Appointment of the members of the committees and sub-committees (vote on 19/01). *Debates: - Priorities of the Maltese Presidency of the Council (debate with the Maltese Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat); - Conclusions of the meeting of the European Council of 15/12/2016 and political priorities for 2017 (debate with Tusk and Juncker); - State of progress in the negotiations on the financial transactions tax (statement of the Council); - Exchange of information on law enforcement in the EU and replacement of earlier instruments of the Lisbon Treaty (Council and Commission statement). *Presentation of reports: Logistics in the EU and multi-modal transport on the new TEN-T corridors (report by Ayala Sender – TRAN).
