8,162 people relocated from Greece and Italy since September 2015

08/12/2016 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 8 December, the European Commission announced that 8,162 people have been relocated from Greece and Italy to the other member states since September 2015. 6,212 people were relocated from Greece and 1,950 from Italy. The Commission said that it should now be possible to transfer all applicants currently in Greece and Italy and eligible for relocation to other member states by September 2017. The member states must therefore carry out at least 2,000 relocations per month from Greece and 1,000 from Italy. From April 2017, the monthly relocation numbers should be at least 3,000 from Greece and 1,500 from Italy in order to comply with the objectives. 60,000 people were supposed to have been relocated from these two countries by September 2017. However, a reserve of 54,000 was set for Turkey and for resettlement, reducing the total to 106,000 people. (SP)
