08/12/2016 (Agence Europe) – The European Prize for Literature 2016 is used to promote European literature, values and culture. Javier Cercas and Erri De Luca were the respective prize winners this year for “The Imposter” and “The More and the Less”. Frans Timmermans, the European Commission Vice President was awarded a special price for his book, “Fraternity”, in which he launches an appeal for the concrete relaunching of the European project and for a common effort to regain the trust of European citizens. The Vice President of the European Parliament, Sylvie Guillaume, pointed out that, “In these more than troubling times in Europe and when the European project is being undermined by populist forces that foster a retreat into ourselves, this prize is a light of hope on a foggy horizon”.
