25/11/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 23 November, the Polish regions adopted their negotiating position on the future of Cohesion Policy post-2020, according to a source from the Committee of the Regions. They stress the importance of Cohesion Policy for reducing regional gaps and are calling for financial awards to be of at least the same level as the current period. The regions want the future European Cohesion Policy to cover all European regions and for GDP to be retained as a key indicator for the award of funding. They want greater flexibility to be introduced in programming to better cater for local and regional needs and characteristics. The document is designed as a contribution to the CoR’s work on Cohesion Policy post-2020, which is expected to be published in May 2017. (PH)
