25/11/2016 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission refuses to describe the crash of its internet service in the afternoon of Thursday 24 November as a cyberattack. Answering reporters’ questions on Friday, Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas said in comments that were later echoed by Commissioner Andrus Ansip that it was simply an attempt to saturate the server connection and there hadn’t been any interruption in the service or problems with data, although the speed of connection has been affected for a while. It was noted that journalists had not been able to connect from the press rooms. Margaritis Schinas refused to say who the culprits were, commenting that he had proved all the information he was able to divulge. He said people knew more than they were prepared to say but it was wiser to keep quiet. (SPJ)
