25/11/2016 (Agence Europe) – Concerned about the security and human rights situation in Rakhine State in Burma/Myanmar, the European Union called on the country to carry out an ‘independent, credible investigation into the initial attacks and subsequent actions’. The comments came on the 22 November at the third EU-Burma human rights dialogue as confirmed by the European External Action Service (EEAS) in a press release on 25 November. Some 30,000 people have been displaced by the violence in the state since October, an area where Rohingyas are concentrated. The EU calls for the ‘urgent re-opening of humanitarian access to the populations in need.’ The EEAS says Burma has announced ‘the imminent establishment of a national investigation commission into the incidents’ and says it has acted with restraint in response to the armed attacks.
