14/11/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 9 November, the European Parliament's Committee for Regional Development (REGI) and Committee for Economic Affairs (ECON) in a letter addressed to the Conference of Presidents of the EP, formally requested that the European Commission did not propose the suspension of commitments to Spanish and Portuguese structural and investment funds (ESI). If the Commission does decide on this suspension, despite this, the two Commissioners would request additional information on the reasons behind this choice, they explained. The Commission is expected to present its proposal on Wednesday 16 November, after having analysed the budgetary proposals from the two member states, currently being assessed as part of the question of the non-reabsorption of their budgetary deficits (see EUROPE 11642).
