10/11/2016 (Agence Europe) – The EU will, at the request of the Ghanaian authorities, observe the presidential and general elections in Ghana, scheduled for 7 December next. The EU’s election observation mission (EOM-EU) will be led by Tamas Meszerics MEP (Greens/EFA, Hungary), who was appointed observer-in-chief by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. The core mission team has been in Accra since 26 October to coordinate the work of the observers and it will remain in place until the end of the election process. A total of 24 long-term observers will soon be sent out throughout the country to underpin the mission and 32 short-term observers will arrive just before the elections. This is the third time that the EU will have observed elections in this West African country. (AN)
