07/11/2016 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission is promising that European health services will not suffer from the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreement. This was revealed in a written response to Inmaculada Rodríguez-Piñero Fernández (S&D, Spain) MEP, published on 24 October. The Commission affirms that governments will keep control of their respective health systems, including the choice of renationalising services that have been previously privatised. It also indicates that the future agreement is not expected to amend the rules negotiated in 2014 on the transparency of clinical trials (Regulation 536/2014). In addition, it says that there is “no intention to change the current balance between incentives to innovate and the objective of making medicines affordable through TTIP provisions affecting intellectual property”.
