07/11/2016 (Agence Europe) – The European Union “fully supports the continued efforts” of the Economic Community of Western African States (ECOWAS) to achieve a solution to the crisis in Guinea Bissau. On Thursday 4 November, the EU repeated this message by highlighting the urgency of finding a crisis-exit solution, which it is ready to ”support”. The spokesperson for the European External Action Service said in a press release that “the current political stalemate puts at risk Guinea Bissau's stability and development. It must be overcome by the swift appointment of a consensual prime minister which all the key political actors can accept, in accordance with the Conakry Agreement”. The Conakry Agreement was reached on 14 October in order to implement the ECOWAS roadmap approved in Bisau on 10 September. This agreement calls for a consensual agreement on the choice of prime minister and the formation of an inclusive government (see EUROPE 11625). (AN)
