European Parliament wants Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty to come into force

On Thursday 26 October, MEPs urged the member states that took part in the 1996 conference on disarmament and which had nuclear reactors at that time to urgently sign and ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) so that the key international treaty can take legal effect as soon as possible.

Among the 44 countries present, only 36 have ratified the treaty – the United States, China, Israel, Iran and Egypt have signed but not ratified it, while India, Pakistan and North Korea...
