25/10/2016 (Agence Europe) – Thanks notably to a contribution of €15 million from the European Union under the EURO ECHO mechanism, the Hellenic Red Cross has provided emergency assistance to refugees and migrants who will be spending the winter in seven camps on the continent, according to a press release from the European Commission published on Tuesday 25 October. This aid will take the form of blankets, sleeping bags and winter raincoats. So far, the European Commission has allocated €198 million to Greece through EURO ECHO (see EUROPE 11621), in addition to the bilateral aid delivered by 20 countries via the Civil Protection Mechanism (see EUROPE 11520).
