18/10/2016 (Agence Europe) – The EU-imposed sanctions on five individuals responsible for the violence committed on 28 September 2009 by Republic of Guinea security forces against political demonstrators in Conakry have been extended for a year, until 27 October 2017. The Council of the EU reached this decision, without debate, in Luxembourg on Monday 17 October on the sidelines of the European foreign affairs ministers’ meeting. The sanctions involve the freezing of financial assets in the EU for members of the National Council for Democracy and Development (NCDD) and for individuals involved in carrying out this violent repression. Visa restrictions on travelling to Europe (see EUROPE 10006) also apply. These restrictions have been in force since 25 October 2010 and are regularly extended. (AN)
