Brussels, 18/10/2016 (Agence Europe) – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced that it will be taking an active part in the global climate conference (COP22) in Marrakesh on 7-18 November. In a press release on Tuesday 18 October, the EBRD explained that it intended to focus on the practical, technical and financial aspects there and help make 2016 the "Year of Green Finance". Through its "Green Economy Transition" (GET) initiative, the EBRD will emphasise "climate finance" and is ready to help countries where it participates in the implementation of the Paris Agreement – starting with Morocco, the organising country. In Marrakesh, the EBRD will be presenting the "Morocco Sustainable Energy Financing Facility”: bank loans to local banks will be retroceded to small-scale Moroccan "energy efficiency and renewable energy projects”. The EBRD will also be a stakeholder in a simultaneous meeting organised by Morocco involving engineers, researchers, scientists, and policy-makers in order "to devise actionable pathways for meeting the goals of the treaty" of Paris.
