Agreement on the EU-Canada free trade deal (CETA) was dealt another hard blow on Friday 14 October when the parliament of the Walloon Region, one of the seven entities of the complex Belgian federal system, vetoed Belgium’s endorsement of signing CETA by the EU, despite pressure from all sides. The European Commission, Canada and EU member states were hoping to get CETA signed at a special summit in Brussels on 27 October.
