13/10/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday evening 12 October, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS) denounced the “deadly attack in Kabul, against innocent civilians” in a mosque where Shia Muslims were gathering for their prayers. Two Shia mosques were affected by the attacks: one in Kabul on Tuesday 11 October and the other in the north of the country on Wednesday 12 October. The attack in Kabul was claimed by the Islamic State organisation. In an EEAS press release, the spokesperson pointed out that the EU was calling on "all all Afghan people to stay united in support of the efforts to fight this global threat" of terrorism, and reiterated that “the European Union stands by the Afghan authorities in the fight against terrorism”.
