Alain Vidalies to attend EMIS committee of inquiry instead of Ségolène Royal

30/09/2016 (Agence Europe)France's Secretary of State for Transport, Alain Vidalies, will come before the committee of inquiry into the Volkswagen scandal (EMIS committee) in November. The MEPs had originally invited the minister for the environment, Ségolène Royal, to address the committee on Monday 3 October, on the sidelines of the plenary session, as the French minister was to attend the European Parliament on Tuesday in her capacity as president of COP 21. However, the cabinet of the French minister told the cabinet of the chair of the EMIS committee on Tuesday 22 September that she was only going to be around for one day on Tuesday 4 October, causing the meeting of the EMIS committee scheduled for Monday to be cancelled, according to a number of sources. This news was described by several sources close to the dossier as highly regrettable, particularly as the results of the national committee of inquiry are strongly suspected, in some quarters, of containing a number of shortcomings (see EUROPE 11610).
