29/09/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 27 September, the Committee of the Regions (CoR) natural resources committee (NAT) adopted a report entitled "Tourism as an engine of regional cooperation in the EU" to boost EU tourism policies. The regions call on the European Commission to provide the EU with a tourism strategy, to establish an investment website for the sector as part of the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), to reduce red tape, particularly for small and medium-sized companies, to take new mutual recognition measures and to boost cross-border cooperation, which will also help promote European citizenship. Tourism in Europe is losing market share to competition from other parts of the world. Recently, MEPs called for a European Capital of Tourism label (see EUROPE 11615). (PH)
