29/09/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 29 September, the Council of the EU decided to renew until 31 October 2017 restrictions on four Burundi nationals. Godefroid Bizimana, deputy director general of the country’s police force, Gervais Ndirakobuca, alias Ndakugarika, head of cabinet for the presidential administration, Mathias/Joseph Niyonzima, alias Kazungu, a national intelligence agent, and Léonard Ngendakumana, a former army general, have been subject for the past year to an EU travel ban and an assets freeze because their activity is viewed as jeopardising democracy or posing an obstacle to the search for a political solution to the crisis in Burundi (see EUROPE 11401).
