20/09/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 20 September, the Council of the EU adopted, unanimously and without debate, the regulation on the secretariat of the Supervisory Committee of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF). Under the new regulation (the text was successfully negotiated between the Council and the European Parliament), the secretariat of the Supervisory Committee will now be provided by the Commission rather than by OLAF (see EUROPE 11572). This will ensure that the Supervisory Committee functions effectively. In order to preserve the independence of the Supervisory Committee, the Commission will refrain from any involvement in its control functions, according to the text, which is soon to be published in the Official Journal of the EU.
