Brussels, 07/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 7 June, the European Commission announced it would release €6.1 million to support stabilisation efforts in Libya.
The funding includes €5 million from the Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP) that will go to the Stabilisation Facility for Libya - an initiative of the Libyan government of national accord. Supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the international community, the Stabilisation Facility for Libya is aimed at rehabilitating critical infrastructure in conflict-affected areas. “This will enable the reopening of key services at municipal level, underpinning the country's efforts to stabilise the overall political situation in Libya and to allow business activity to recover”, the Commission states in a press release.
The remaining €1.1 million will go to a city profiling system designed to rapidly collect and present statistically sound data at municipal and local level in order to identify areas of greatest need. This profiling system will also provide analysis to support planning for stabilisation, resilience and recovery activities, the Commission adds. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
