Brussels, 20/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 17 May, the Council of Ministers of the EU decided not to oppose the adoption of two regulations of the Commission establishing electricity network codes: one on the connection of distribution grids and demand facilities, the other on the requirements applicable to grid connections of high-voltage direct current systems and direct current-connected power park modules.
The first text lays down obligations to guarantee that systems operators make appropriate, transparent and non-discriminatory use of distribution grid and demand facility capabilities, the Council explains in a background note.
The second text lays down obligations to ensure that the system operators make appropriate, transparent and non-discriminatory use of the HVDC systems and DC-connected power park module capabilities.
Both aim to set in place fair competition conditions within the single market for electricity, to ensure the safety of the network and the integration of renewable sources of energy, and to facilitate the trade in electricity within the EU.
These two acts of the Commission are subject to the 'regulatory procedure with scrutiny', which means that now that the Council has given its approval, the Commission may adopt the act, unless the European Parliament opposes it. (Original version in French by Emmanuel Hagry)
