04/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - New proposal to mobilise EGF in Belgium. On Wednesday 4 May, the European Commission proposed to provide Belgium with €1.8 million from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to help 488 workers made redundant by several manufacturers of construction machinery (Carwall, Caterpillar Belgium and Doosan) in Belgium. The Belgian authorities would also like the funding to help 300 young people not in employment, education or training (NEETs). The total cost of the intervention is estimated to be around €3 million and is justified by the need to respond to globalisation and the relocation of production sites to third countries. The proposal has been submitted for the approval of the European Parliament and Council of Ministers. (JK)
