Brussels, 29/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - France has been sent a reasoned opinion for persistent breach of EU rules on chemical pollution of waters, the European Commission announced on Thursday 28 April.
In the reasoned opinion, which is the second stage of the infringement procedure, the Commission enjoins France to send it additional information on how Directive 2013/39/EU on priority substances in the field of water policy is being enacted in domestic law.
After receiving a letter of formal notice on 20 November 2015 after missing the original deadline set by the directive for transposition into domestic law, France notified the Commission of its national transposition measures but these are incomplete.
If France fails to act within two months, the case may be referred to the Court of Justice of the EU. (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
