Pigmeat private storage requests total 62,309 tonnes in two weeks

Brussels, 15/01/2016 (Agence Europe) - Applications have been lodged in the EU for private storage aid for 62,309 tonnes of pigmeat, 54% in boned legs and 9.3% in fats, in the first two weeks of the scheme (that is, until 13 January) which opened on 4 January.

In terms of volume, 23% of applications have come from Germany, 22.8% from Spain, 16.7% from Denmark, 12.7% from the Netherlands, 7% from Poland, 4.4% from Italy and 3.1% from France. Some 65.3% of requests for contracts are for 90-day storage periods, 7.3% for 120 days and 27.3% for 150 days.

Member states have to notify the Commission twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays, of contract requests. The aid is 20% higher than in the previous private storage scheme opened at the start of March 2015 and closed at the end of April. This scheme saw 65,000 tonnes of pork, 63% of which was boned legs, temporarily withdrawn from the market in 18 member states. In volume, 24% of the cumulative applications were from Denmark, 21.6% from Spain, 12.5% from Germany, 12% from Poland, 8.5% from Italy, 5.8% from the Netherlands, 4.5% from France and 3% from Belgium.
