15/01/2016 (Agence Europe) - Miguel Arias Cañete in Abu Dhabi for sixth general meeting of IRENA. The European Commissioner for Energy and Climate Action, Miguel Arias Cañete, will be in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) on 16 and 17 January to attend the sixth general meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and a number of other events related to the promotion of renewable energy. The meeting of IRENA aims to ensure the concrete implementation of the international climate agreement concluded at the UN conference of Paris (COP 21) in December 2015 and to lay down strong orientations for the role of the agency in promoting renewable energy. On the sidelines of the meeting, Cañete will hold bilateral talks with representatives of the governments of the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Israel and other countries from the Gulf region. On Sunday, he will attend a ministerial round table on the financing of renewable energy. (EH)
