Belgrade expected to open two negotiation chapters on 14 December

Brussels, 04/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 3 December, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini announced that Serbia is expected to open two negotiation chapters on 14 December as part of its EU accession process.

“I'm looking forward to working together more and more, while on 14 December we can expect (the) opening (of) two chapters - 32 and 35 - for more detailed negotiations”, Mogherini said at the end of a meeting in Belgrade with Serbian prime minister Aleksander Vucic. Chapter 32 deals with financial control and Chapter 35 with the normalisation of relations with Kosovo.

Mogherini stated that the EU was looking forward to “more intense cooperation” with Serbia. An intergovernmental conference will take place in Paris on 14 December. Serbia obtained its candidate status in March 2012 and opened accession negotiations on 21 January 2014 (see EUROPE 11001).

Mogherini said that Serbia had made important “symbolic but also substantial steps” to contribute to understanding and cooperation in the region - especially through the agreements signed with Kosovo (see EUROPE 11375). She also stated that the EU and Serbia are cooperating on the management of the migration crisis and in the area of security. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
