04/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - 291 young researchers receive €429 million in grants. On Friday 4 December, the European Research Council (ERC) announced that it had selected 291 young researchers (with between two and seven years of experience) in Europe in order to award them with €429 million in grants. The funding will come from the budget of the EU framework programme for research and innovation (Horizon 2020). It is again projects in the UK (48), Germany (47), the Netherlands (32) and France (29) that will be the main beneficiaries. The ERC nevertheless stated that it had awarded more grants to researchers in Eastern and Central Europe. For the first time a grant will be awarded to a researcher in Malta. (JK)
