Brussels, 04/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 3 December, the European Commission adopted the operational programmes of the United Kingdom and Portugal in fisheries and aquaculture.
The United Kingdom programme is worth a total of €310 million of public funding, for the period from 2014 to 2020, under the European maritime and fisheries fund (EMFF). The EU budget will contribute €243 million. The UK operational programme priorities include: - implementation of the common fisheries policy (CFP), which will receive €97.6 million; - fishing activities (€67.5 million); - fostering marketing and processing (€27.2 million).
Portugal's operational programme is worth a total of €506 million in public funding, with €392 million coming from the EU budget. The programme will provide €111.2 million for fostering marketing and processing, and €103 million for developing fishing activities. The Portuguese outermost regions of the Azores and Madeira will be compensated for extra costs incurred because of their geographical remoteness. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
