02/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - €19 million for cooperation between Guiana and neighbouring Amazonian states. On Monday 30 November, the European Commission gave its approval to the cross-border cooperation programme between the extremely remote region of Guiana, Suriname and two states of Brazil for a budget of €19 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). With co-financing, the programme will have a total price tag of €28 million and is based on four pillars: - transport and mobility in the region, with the creation of a new ferry on the River Maroni between Guiana and Suriname; - protection of the environment; - health, stepping up the fight against HIV, malaria and dengue fever; - developing businesses on the regional market, particularly in the agri-food, renewable energy, information and communication technology and eco-tourism sectors.
