02/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU and United States call for government of national unity. At their meeting in Brussels on 1 December, the High Representative of the EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and the American Secretary of State John Kerry stressed the “urgent need for the parties to agree on a government of national unity” in Libya, the European External Action Service (EEAS) reports in a press release. On Syria, Mogherini and Kerry agreed on the need to move the process forward - a process which began in Vienna towards a political solution to the crisis in the country, and which is also “crucial to allow us effectively to fight” Islamic State. Lastly, Mogherini and Kerry discussed the situation in the Middle East, expressing concern that in the absence of specific measures on the ground, the situation could grow even worse. According to the EEAS, they stressed their joint commitment in this regard, also through the work of the Quartet. (CG)
