02/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - Contact points for combating hatred. Following the terrorist attacks in Paris, the European Commission appointed two coordinators on Wednesday 2 December. Katharina von Schnurbein, a German national, has been appointed coordinator in combating anti-Semitism, and David Friggieri, from Malta, will be in charge of combating anti-Muslim hatred. The key task of the two coordinators will be to bring the specific concerns of the respective communities to the attention of First Vice-President Frans Timmermans and Justice Commissioner Vera Jourova. They will act as dedicated contact points for these communities, the member states, the Commission, the Parliament and civil society. They will also contribute to the development of the Commission's overarching strategy to combat hate crime, hate speech, intolerance and discrimination.
