Brussels, 02/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 2 December, the European Commission announced the names of nine sites recommended to it by a panel of independent experts to claim a European heritage label. In March 2015, the member states pre-selected 18 applications which celebrate and symbolise “European values, history, integration and ideals”. The sites recommended by the experts include: the site of prehistoric man of Neanderthal and the Krapina Museum (Croatia), Premyslides Castle and the Archdiocesan Museum of Olomouc (Czech Republic), Sagres Point (Portugal), the Imperial Palace (Austria), the historical University of Tartu (Estonia), the Franz Liszt Academy of Music (Hungary), the Mundaneum (Belgium), cemetery no. 123 of the Eastern front of the First World War (Poland) and the European quarter of Strasbourg (France). The Commission will announce its verdict in February 2016 and will hold an awards ceremony in Brussels in April the same year.
