Brussels, 09/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 9 October, the European Commission adopted an implementing act laying down specifications for the new health warnings on cigarette boxes and packages of tobacco products under the new tobacco directive that came into force on 19 May 2014.
As stipulated in the directive, the new health warnngs shall comprise a colour photograph and text, appear on both sides of the packaging and cover 65% of its surface area (see EUROPE 10987). The new rules adopted by the Commission include technical specifications for the layout, design and shape of the new combined health warnings for tobacco packaging. The new health warnings will appear on cigarette packaging across the EU from May 2016. (Original version in French by Isabelle Lamberty)
