Brussels, 24/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - The Cypriot finance minister, Harris Georgiades, said over the weekend that he hopes that the latest extension on the law on property repossessions, to run until 2 April, will be the last.
This latest extension, the fourth, was voted unanimously by the Cypriot parliament last Thursday. This stalemate at a crucial point of the Cypriot economic adjustment programme forced the 'troika' (Commission, ECB and IMF) to break off its monitoring mission and the attention has since then been focused mainly on the Greek dossier. Cyprus anticipates a return of the 'troika' to Nicosia at the end of April, as long as all goes well with the law under suspension. A Commission source was, however, reluctant to commit to any particular date until the Parliament makes its decision on 2 April. “I want to maintain a positive perspective that this issue will be regulated in a positive way in the next few weeks and I don't wish to take part in a public blame game around this sensitive issue”, said Harris Georgiades, quoted by the Cyprus Mail.
