Brussels, 24/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - “Get Online Week” was given the go-ahead on Monday, 23 March. This annual event is an integral part of the European “e-skills for jobs” campaign, which seeks to draw attention to the importance of acquiring digital skills. Several activities will be organised throughout the week-long event in the 24 countries taking part in the initiative.
Two things have been chosen this year to guide the way the different activities are organised: the acquisition of digital skills by young people and the unemployed, as well as digital inclusion to provide a chance to those that do not have access to new technologies and the Internet and are excluded from participation in the digital society.
Speaking on his blog, European Commission Vice President in charge of the Digital Single, Andrus Ansip, explained that this event was a useful tool for encouraging careers in the digital technology sectors. He added that, “This is essential given that in the near future, 90% of jobs - in careers such as engineering, accountancy, nursing, medicine, art, architecture, and many more - will require some degree of digital skills”.
