Brussels, 11/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU development ministers will meet for an informal Council in Brussels on Thursday 12 March. On the agenda is a preliminary exchange of views on the position to be taken by the EU in international discussions taking place on development funding.
In the run-up to this meeting that will prepare for the third UN conference on development funding (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in July), the NGO ONE, which campaigns against extreme poverty, particularly in Africa, is pressing ministers to: - restate their commitment to allocate collective 0.7% of EU GNI to official development assistance (ODA); - set a new objective of allocating at least 50% of that assistance to the least developed countries; - adopt European transparency measures to bring an end to illicit capital flows.
