Brussels, 26/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 26 February, the European Commission decided to take Austria and Luxembourg to the European Court of Justice for having failed to respect the European regulation on bus and coach transport passenger rights (Regulation 181/2011).
Under the terms of this regulation, member states are obliged to appoint appropriate supervisory bodies for applying the provisions and responding to complaints from passengers. They also have to introduce a system of penalties applicable to operators who infringe the regulation and designate facilities at which persons with disabilities can obtain suitable assistance when travelling.
Austria has not adopted any of these measures, despite the fact that the Commission sent the country a reasoned opinion in March 2014. Luxembourg has not introduced the penalty system, despite having received a reasoned opinion from the Commission in September 2014. (Lionel Changeur)
