Brussels, 26/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - A Europol operation has dismantled a huge computer hacking network which infected more than three million computers with the Ramnit virus in order to steal banking information, Reuters reports on Thursday 26 February. The joint international operation, coordinated by Europol's European Cybercrime Centre (EC3), involved investigators from Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom along with partners from private industry, AnubisNetworks, Microsoft and Symantec. According to Symantec, the Ramnit virus, which first appeared in 2010, was to be found in 3.2 million PCs, 27% of which were to be found in India and 18% in Indonesia. Thereafter come Vietnam, the United States, Bangladesh and the Philippines. Investigators speak of 350,000 machines infected. (Solenn Paulic)
