Brussels, 26/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - Aid for the private storage of dairy products has been extended until September, under a regulation published in the official Journal of the EU on Thursday 26 February.
The previous day, the European Commission adopted an implementing regulation amending implementing regulations 947/2014 and 948/2014 as regards the last day for submission of applications for private storage aid for butter and skimmed milk powder.
As pledged by Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan, producers affected by the Russian ban on the import of agricultural products from the EU will be eligible for aid for the private storage of butter and skimmed milk powder until September.
“In view of the current market situation it is appropriate to extend by 7 months the private storage aid schemes for butter and skimmed milk powder”, states the regulation. It adds that “prices of butter and skimmed milk powder in the Union are still fragile”.
This market measure, which was introduced in September 2014, has seen 43,969 tonnes of butter and 20,912 tonnes of skimmed milk powder taken off the market temporarily. (Lionel Changeur)
