Association Committee meeting

Brussels, 26/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - Morocco and the European Union held a meeting of their Association Committee in Rabat on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 February. The committee brings diplomats and experts together for the preparation of Association Council sessions, which are at ministerial level.

The meeting in Rabat provided “the opportunity to assess the results of our partnership with the EU, especially as part of implementing the advanced status and the European neighbourhood policy”, said Karima Kabbaj, who is in charge of relations with the EU and the Mediterranean processes at the Moroccan ministry of foreign affairs and cooperation. Morocco is awaiting the new directions that the EU intends to impress on its neighbourhood policy.

Also on the agenda of the meeting were financial cooperation for the 2014-2017 period, the regulatory convergence strategy, and Morocco's participation in EU programmes and common European agencies.

Kabbaj told Moroccan media that the discussions have now been broadened to security. She announced the preparation of a framework agreement on Morocco's participation in military operations and civil missions of the EU common security and defence policy. She also announced a second framework agreement relating to security procedures for the exchange of classified information between the EU and Morocco. (Fathi B'Chir)
