Parliament's special LuxLeaks committee holds its first meeting

Brussels, 25/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - The special committee of the European Parliament on tax rulings and other similar fiscal measures, which was set up in response to the LuxLeaks scandal, is to hold its inaugural meeting this Thursday 26 February. The French MEP Alain Lamassoure (EPP) is expected to be confirmed as President of this special committee at the meeting.

The number of vice-presidents this committee will have had not been confirmed on Wednesday. The name of Eva Joly (Greens/EFA) has been mentioned and the ECR was theoretically expected to take a vice-presidency. Denmark's Morten Messerschmidt has been named as a possibility, but according to one source, the ECR member to be appointed vice-president is more likely to come from the ranks of Afd (Germany), for instance Bernd Lucke. The GUE/NGL group may also take a vice-presidency, bringing the total number of vice-presidents to three. Michael Theurer (ALDE, Germany) is expected to be its rapporteur, alongside an MEP from the S&D group. Germany's Sven Giegold (Greens/EFA) is likely to be made the special committee's coordinator and his Belgian ally, Philippe Lamberts, its shadow rapporteur.

The special committee will look at dominant tax practices as of 1 January 1991, when the first agreement was concluded between Apple and Ireland. The meeting scheduled for 9 March will take stock of the agenda for the work. (Translation from the original French version)
