Brussels, 25/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 24 February, the ECB unveiled a new 20 euro banknote, which will enter circulation on 25 November 2015.
The new note features an innovative security feature in the form of a 'portrait window' set in the hologram, the institution announces in a press release. When the banknote is held against the light, the window becomes transparent and reveals a portrait of the mythical figure Europa, visible on both sides of the note. The new 20 euro note is one of the most widely used of all banknotes in circulation. Following the reissuing of the 5 and 10 euro notes, it will be followed by new versions of the 50, 100, 200 and 500 euro notes over the next few years.
A partnership programme will reinforce communication to help manufacturers ensure that banknote handling machines and authentication devices throughout the euro area are ready in time for the launch of the new note. (Translation from the original French version)
